Action Pad is made of AKTON® polymer, a special ultra-flexible material without any liquid component. It has effective functions for preventing pressure ulcers such as flexibility, extensibility, stability, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and durability.
Even if you put Aaction Pad of 2.2cm thick on a hard table and put your whole weight on it with your knees, your knees will not reach the bottom. The maximum weight that Action Pad does not bottom out is astonishingly high at 600 kg, and it can withstand even if an elephant steps on it with one foot. Bottoming indicates that it reaches the limit and can relieve no further pressure. If the pressure relief cushion bottoms out easily, it does not relieve pressure sufficiently in fact. Action Pad, that is “soft but does not bottom out”, is an amazing pad to support the body gently at any time.
For some gel and silicone products, the material itself becomes hard when pushed in, and it will not be able to disperse pressure sufficiently because getting hard is in the almost same condition as bottoming out when pushed in by your weight on. The flexibility of Action Pad is not impaired no matter how much you push it in, and it always supports your body softly.
The force of pushing back when you put your weight on it is the pressure, which can cause pressure ulcers. Products with a strong pushing back force such as air mats (air pressure) and water mats (water pressure) need a function to sufficiently control those force. Since Action Pad scarcely pushes back, it does not make you feel oppressed and always supports your body comfortably.
Air mats and low-resilience urethane foam are well marketed and widely used as bedsore prevention tools. However, their cushioning properties can interfere with the physical mobility of the patient and cause discomfort like "fluffy and restless". It cannot be used during surgery or for patients on absolute bed rest, which require the stability. Action Pad, which emphasizes the balance between pressure redistribution ability and independence, does not have extra cushioning properties. Its stability does not interfere with the user's body movements, rehabilitation exercises, and nuring care, thereby promoting independence and preventing pressure ulcers.
Action Pad boasts outstanding durability that laboratory tests confirmed that the material remains unchanged for 25 years. Even if the film is damaged, oil and contents will not leak out or lose its shape unlike the gel type (konjac mat). Also, even if you continue to put 1 ton of weight on the pad for a month, it will return to its original shape within 5 seconds after removing the weight. It has amazing resilience and will never be dented in the shape of a person even if you use it for a long time. Furthermore, it is very economical as there is no need for electricity or maintenance costs.
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (ultraviolet rays) will cause the material to change.
You can clean it with all common disinfectants such as soap and ethanol. In addition, heat resistance is guaranteed from -30℃ to 100℃, so it can be disinfected and washed whole in boiled water. Moreover, it does not absorb the odor due to incontinence, and it can be used hygienically again just by surface cleaning.
The film may get too soft by soaking in chemical solution for a long time.
Action Pad is not a machine so does not require any power supply. Therefore, there is no motor noise, and no malfunction.
Quite a lot of Action Pad were used in disaster-stricken areas where air mats stopped working due to power outages, and are still active there today.
Action Pad has an excellent function of relieving body pressure compared to the air mat and sponge type. The results of the experiment are introduced here.
As a result of comparison with sponge, it showed that Action Pad has excellent resilience. In addition, the ratio of strain and the ratio of stress are high enough to respond to changes in load during posture changes. It has been proven to be effective in preventing pressure due to imbalanced pressure distribution. Furthermore, the measurement of the ratio of pressure distribution revealed the advantage of distributing the load to the limit and not concentrating the pressure on one point.
As all the data indicates, Action Pad is very effective in preventing bedsore by redistributing the body pressure to the utmost limit.
Action Pad has the property of not retaining heat. In normal use, the temperature of the pad itself does not rise above body temperature and prevents stuffiness due to sweating. Graph 3 shows the skin temperature contacting nursing care products. Sponge and air type products raise the skin temperature so much and may cause stuffiness. On the contrary, waterbed lower the skin temperature too much and may cause discomfort. Action Pad keeps the skin temperature at constant and the appropriate level, so it's always comfortable to use.
The data in Graphs 1 to 3 are all obtained from tests conducted by the public institution in the United States.
Action Pad was created in the United States, the most advanced country in welfare. A public hospital in New York known as an expert in rehabilitation research conducted various scientific and clinical tests on 24 types of nursing care products including conventional popular types such as air mat, gel type, sponge type, etc., and as a result Action Pad got the highest score.
Currently, Action Pad is supplied to 67 countries through Action-group companies and are used worldwide as a bedsore prevention device in operating rooms and wards in hospitals or at home.
One way to determine the superiority or inferiority of pressure ulcer prevention equipment is to test with an instrument for pressure measuring. But the results differ depending on the measuring instrument or research institution, and it is also possible to post only the convenient data for the company's product.
We looked for the most equitable and objective way to evaluate Action Pad, we were convinced that it was clinical data in the field. Therefore, we have been collecting clinical data of tests conducted in hospitals and the feedback from users in the field since 1995 up to present, and more than 8,000 clinical data (as of November 2020) have been collected in Japan alone.
In addition to pressure redistribution, it includes various items required on site such as stability, measures against stuffiness, and ease of maintenance. Action Pad has received excellent evaluation in more than 80% of cases overall.
This data is a compilation of the results of more than 8,000 clinical tests at university hospitals, long-term care facility, and other medical institutions, as well as questionnaires from customers who purchased our products.
